Jessica Chastain Takes You Inside Sexist Auditions on 'Fallon'

Jessica Chastain is taking viewers inside what an audition looks like for women in Hollywood.

The two-time Oscar-nominated actress appeared in a sketch called “Every Audition Ever” while guesting on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday (November 17) in New York City.

During the sketch, Jessica was asked to read the same line over and over again in different ways, with the casting director asking her to sound “hot,” “young,” and other sexist things.

That same night, Jessica attended a screening of her movie Molly’s Game at the MoMa.

Jessica Chastain Bares Some Leg at 'Molly's Game' Screening

Jessica Chastain puts some leg on display while walking the red carpet at the screening of her movie Molly’s Game during the closing night of the 2017 AFI Fest presented by Audi on Thursday (November 17) at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The two-time Oscar-nominated actress was joined by the film’s writer-director, Aaron Sorkin.

Molly’s Game was a last-minute replacement for the festival’s closing night film after Kevin Spacey‘s All the Money in the World was pulled from the schedule amid his sexual harassment and assault scandal. The film is now being re-shot to replace Spacey with Christopher Plummer.

You can see Molly’s Game in theaters on December 25!

FYI: Jessica is wearing an Elie Saab dress.

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, & A-List Stars Discuss Being a Woman in Hollywood

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Mary J. Blige, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney and Saoirse Ronan are all featured on the cover of THR‘s annual dramatic actress roundtable issue.

Here’s what the stars had to share with the mag:

Jennifer, on being “punished” for standing up for herself on set: “Sometimes — I’ve had this happen: I finally made the decision to stand up for myself, and then I went to go to the bathroom at work and one of the producers stopped me and was like, ‘You know, we can hear you on the microphone, you’ve been really unruly.’ Which was not true, but basically my job was threatened because the director said something fucked up to me and I said, ‘That’s sick, you can’t talk to me like that,’ and then I was punished, and I got afraid that I wasn’t going to be hired again … I was called difficult and a nightmare.”

Jessica, on why things in Hollywood need to change: “You know what [Sorkin] said to me the other day when we were talking about what’s going on in the industry? He said that he was talking to his daughter, Roxy, and saying, ‘Listen, when you go into the workforce, if a guy grabs you or does something with you, you can scream, you can fight back.’ And she turned to him and said, ‘Dad, why are you teaching me to defend myself and not teaching those guys not to be creeps?’ The onus isn’t on women. Society has a way of blaming victims: You didn’t come out soon enough or you’re not asking for enough money. But the onus is on others not to abuse their power.”

Allison, on the pressure to look perfect: “For I, Tonya, I got to do this old-age makeup, and I was like three hours in this makeup, and then I saw myself and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, this is fantastic. I don’t have to worry about my jowls.’ It was so freeing to go and work on a part that I didn’t care what I looked like. Even seeing it, I was like, ‘Oh, God, I can watch myself because I look so awful.’”

Jessica Chastain Reveals Why She Won't Go Out for 'Traditional Female Roles'

Jessica Chastain is on the cover of Town & Country magazine’s December/January issue, on newsstands November 21.

Here’s what the Molly’s Game star had to share with the mag:

On why she does not choose traditional female acting roles: “I am not one to go for traditional female roles, because I don’t think traditionally female characters are very interesting, and I don’t think they represent real life. I’m working hard to break free of stereotypes that the film industry has created and nurtured around women.”

On equal pay and what she will no longer accept: “If I’m in a situation where I have equal experience to the actor and my role is just as significant, there is no reason why I should be paid less. It’s not really part of my world anymore, because I just won’t accept it.”

On her mission to inspire young girls: “I believe that the energy you put into the world is what you get back, so I’m trying to put something positive out there, something to inspire girls and go into science, to run for office, to try to join the space program.”

Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain & More Perform at The Children's Monologues' Benefit!

Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain came together on Monday night (November 13) to perform stories written by children in South Africa at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle, The Children’s Monologues were performed to benefit Dramatic Need – a charity that uses the arts to uplift children in South Africa and Rwanda.

The event combined musical performances, dance and dramatic interpretations of monologues by Anne, Jessica, as well as Cynthia Erivo, Susan Sarandon, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Esperanza Spalding.

The Children’s Monologues presents performances based on the stories of children growing up in Rammulotsi in the Free State. Children there were invited to describe a day they would never forget, which award-winning playwrights then adapted for the stage.
