Ed Sheeran Says Quitting Twitter Was Unrelated to His 'Game of Thrones' Cameo

Ed Sheeran is spilling on why he quit Twitter and it had nothing to do with his Game of Thrones cameo.

The 26-year-old entertainer took to his Instagram to explain his decision to leave Twitter, which followed some mixed reviews of his GoT appearance.

“Last i’ll say on this. I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo, because I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that,” Ed wrote.

He added, “It’s clearly f**kin’ awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want. Here is an unrelated picture of me and my wonderful manager riding off into the sunset together.”

'Game of Thrones' Director Defends Ed Sheeran's Cameo

The director of the Game of Thrones premiere, Jeremy Podeswa, is defending Ed Sheeran for his cameo after Twitter was polarized over his appearance during the episode.

“I’m a bit surprised that people have made that much fuss about it. To me, he does seem quite organic, in his own way, to the show,” Jeremy told Daily Beast.

“The truth is, everybody on the show is famous now. So it doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s about, are they appropriate for the role? Are they doing a good job? And it was yes, yes, yes to all those questions with him,” Jeremy continued, adding Ed was “delightful” to direct. Ed deleted his Twitter account hours after his cameo aired.

“He is a lovely person; he’s really down-to-earth. If you didn’t know that he was a pop star or an entertainer of any kind, you would think he’s just one of the guys. And he is. He really just wanted to do a great job. He’s been acting for a little while; he takes it very seriously. And he was a real trouper, too. We were shooting in the middle of nowhere in Northern Ireland. He sat around outside with the cast and crew all day long, and just kind of hung out and was good-humored and lovely. He took direction well. He really could not have been nicer,” Jeremy continued.

“It is a funny thing because I really, genuinely believe that if you didn’t know who he was, you would have just thought he was one of the gang, effortlessly,” he concluded.

It’s probably no coincidence that this came just one day after he was harshly criticized for his appearance during the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere.

Meanwhile, Ed remains active on Instagram and just posted a sweet photo with girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, writing, “Climbing mountains in Peru”

Ed Sheeran's 'Game of Thrones' Cameo Revealed!

Ed Sheeran‘s Game of Thrones cameo has finally been revealed!

News broke back in March that Ed would cameo, but we didn’t
know it would be during the season seven premiere of the show!

Ed did a scene with Arya (Maisie Williams), who stopped him as she was riding through a forest.

“He rode through the streets of the city / Down from his hill on high / O’er the winds and the steps and the cobbles / He rode to a woman’s sigh / For she was his secret treasure / She was his shame and his bliss / And a chain and a keep are nothing / Compared to a woman’s kiss / For hands of gold are always cold / But a woman’s hands are warm,” Ed could be heard singing.

“It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it before,” Arya responded.

“It’s a new one,” Ed added.

Game of Thrones‘ seventh season premiered today and will air every Sunday on HBO for the next several weeks.

“It’s not like I quit it,” Ed clarified once more. “I still post to Instagram and it goes to Twitter.”

The only change he’s actually made to his social media game is not reading comments: “It’s just foolish to do, when there’s so much love out in the world, to look at the negative stuff. I’m just choosing not to read it.”

Ed Sheeran Says He's Not Actually Quitting Twitter

Ed Sheeran would like to clarify some comments he made recently stating that he was done with social media.

The 26-year-old “Shape of You” singer had told The Sun that he was leaving Twitter because he didn’t want to deal with Internet trolls anymore.

He especially didn’t want to deal with fans who had allegedly attacked him because they assumed he was talking about Lady Gaga the wrong way in an interview, though he says he wasn’t even talking about her. (See how Gaga responded here.)

Q magazine is out now,” Ed shared on Instagram on Wednesday (July 5) along with a photo of himself tuning his guitar. “Also loads of Hoo-har about me quitting stuff. I haven’t quit anything, I’m just not reading anything, except Harry Potter. Hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th yo.”

We’re glad you’re still online, Ed!

Lady Gaga Sends Her Love to Ed Sheeran After He Claimed Her Fans Attacked Him Online

Lady Gaga is praising Ed Sheeran and wants her fans to empower all musicians.

In a recent interview, Ed shared that he was decided to quit Twitter after receiving too many cruel comments, and said that Gaga‘s fans are some of the culprits behind the hateful tweets.

Lady Gaga’s fan base read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all f—ing hate,” Ed said. “And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all.”

Gaga has now taken to Instagram to share a selfie of herself with Ed and wants to put all the hate to rest.

“What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED @edsheeran deserves all our love and respect like all humans do,” Gaga wrote. “I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top. Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity.”
