Angelina Jolie's 'First They Killed My Father' Gets Harrowing First Trailer - Watch Now

The first trailer for Angelina Jolie‘s new Netflix film First They Killed My Father has arrived.

The film follows the story of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung as she recounts the horrors she suffered under the rule of the deadly Khmer Rouge regime, which ended up murdering a quarter of the population.

Angelina and Loung Ung wrote the script together and Angelina also acted as director.

Recently, Angelina‘s comments about casting the film came under controversy and she fired back with a statement explaining everything.

The movie debuts on Netflix on September 15. Sareum Srey Moch, Phoeung Kompheak, and Sveng Socheata star in the film.

Angelina Jolie Fires Back at 'Vanity Fair,' Disputes 'First They Killed My Father' Audition Story

Angelina Jolie is refuting an account published in her Vanity Fair cover story about how casting directors played a “game” with the young children they auditioned for First They Killed My Father, the new movie she directed.

“In order to find their lead, to play young Loung Ung, the casting directors set up a game, rather disturbing in its realism: they put money on the table and asked the child to think of something she needed the money for, and then to snatch it away. The director would pretend to catch the child, and the child would have to come up with a lie,” the Vanity Fair story reads. Many are calling this account of the casting emotionally abusive.

Angelina released a statement to the Huffington Post assuring everyone that the story is taken out of context and there were guardians, parents, doctors, and more present during the entire filming process.

“Every measure was taken to ensure the safety, comfort and well-being of the children on the film starting from the auditions through production to the present,” Angelina said. “I am upset that a pretend exercise in an improvisation, from an actual scene in the film, has been written about as if it was a real scenario. The suggestion that real money was taken from a child during an audition is false and upsetting. I would be outraged myself if this had happened.”

Angelina Jolie Reveals What She's Doing While Taking a Break From Work

Angelina Jolie has been keeping a low key lately, and apart from promoting new movie First They Killed My Father, which she directed, she’s taking a break from work.

“I’m just wanting to make the proper breakfast and keep the house,” Angelina said in her revealing Vanity Fair cover story. “That’s my passion. At the request of my kids, I’m taking cooking classes. As I go to sleep at night, I think, Did I do a great job as a mom or was that an average day? I’ve been trying for nine months to be really good at just being a homemaker and picking up dog poop and cleaning dishes and reading bedtime stories. And I’m getting better at all three. But now I need to get my boots on and go hang, take a trip.”

Angelina also spoke about her split from Brad Pitt, a surprising health diagnosis, and more with the mag. Be sure to check it out!

Angelina Jolie Gets Candid About Split From Brad Pitt, Bell's Palsy Diagnosis & More in 'Vanity Fair'

Angelina Jolie looks stunning on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s September 2017 issue.

Here’s what the actress, director, and humanitarian had to share…

On her split from Brad Pitt: “It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air. [This house] is a big jump forward for us, and we’re all trying to do our best to heal as our family….things got bad…I don’t want to use that word…Things became ‘difficult.’”

On her kids: “[Our lifestyle] was not in any way a negative. That was not the problem. That is and will remain one of the wonderful opportunities we are able to give our children…They’re six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals. I’m very proud of them. [They're] very brave…in times they needed to be. We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing…They’re not healing from the divorce. They’re healing from some…from life, from things in life.”

On developing hypertension and Bell’s palsy: “I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had. Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health. I actually feel like more of a woman because I’m being smart about my choices, and I’m putting my family first, and I’m in charge of my life and my health. I think that’s what makes a woman complete.” FYI: Bell’s Palsy is characterized as sudden weakness in the muscles on one half of the face. Angelina credits acupuncture with helping her make a full recovery. Hypertension is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high.

On something Knox said to her: “He said, ‘Who wants to be normal? We’re not normal. Let’s never be normal.’ Thank you—yes! We’re not normal. Let’s embrace being not normal.”

FYI: Angelina is wearing Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello on the cover.
